We offer Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOWT) at the 9:00 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday Masses during the school year, beginning September 11, 2016. All children ages 4 through 2nd grade are invited to participate. Once a child has received her/his first Communion, the child should stay with the family at Mass and discontinue Children’s Liturgy of the Word. NOTE: This is a change from previous years. Since we ask children who have received first Communion to say with the family, CLOWT will no longer be available for children in Grades 3 & 4.
Before the first reading, Father will invite the children to participate. When dismissed, they move to Our Lady Chapel, located on the east side of the narthex (or Church entrance) There, the Scripture readings are the same readings that adults hear, but are more age appropriate. Following the readings is an age appropriate reflection and prayers of the faithful. The children will return to you in Church at the presentation of the gifts.
There is no cost or registration. There is, however, a requirement that all participants wear a NAME TAG that will not only identify them for discussion purposes, but provide vital emergency contact information, should the need arise. Our CLOWT leaders have completed the Safe Environment training that our diocese requires.
Each week when you come to Church, please have your child pick her/his name tag up from the CLOWT table. BEFORE the children return to you in Church, we will gather the name tags and keep for the next week. The name tags should not go home.
We are in need of additional CLOWT leaders; all training and materials are provided, and you will be part of a team of adults to provide this instruction. If you have questions, or would like to become a CLOWT leader, please contact Amy Tunning, Amy.Tunning@ops.org or Vicki Smith, firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
